About this work
Built in graphite, charcoal, and chalk on paper, Dry Creek Note, Study II extends Field Note's interest in charcoal dust behaving almost like weather. The surface is deliberately layered, allowing shifts in color and edge to stay visible rather than resolving into a polished finish.
About the artist
Field Note
Fort Worth, TX
Rowan Ellis draws under the moniker Field Note, creating measured graphite works that sit between landscape study and notation. Ellis often begins outside with small observational sketches, then enlarges them in the studio until line, smudge, and erasure become a weather system of their own.
Artist statement
Drawing is where I can think at the speed of looking. The finished works keep that searching quality instead of trying to smooth it away.
