About this work
Built in paper collage, ink, plaster, and wax on board, June Ledger No. 8 extends Copper June's interest in the color of oxidized metal against dust and chalk. The surface is deliberately layered, allowing shifts in color and edge to stay visible rather than resolving into a polished finish.
About the artist
Copper June
San Antonio, TX
Mateo Alvarez builds tactile mixed-media surfaces from salvaged flyers, coated paper, construction mesh, and hand-applied plaster. Working as Copper June, he treats each panel like a wall that has been written on, covered up, and weathered back open.
Artist statement
My paintings begin with accumulation. I trust abrasion, covering, and repair to reveal an image that feels lived in rather than designed from the start.
