About this work
Heat Ledger I is a acrylic, pastel, and graphite on canvas work shaped around heat shimmer across stucco. Sol Vale keeps the palette anchored in burnt sienna, chalk white, and smoke blue so the whole body of work reads as a single conversation.
About the artist
Sol Vale
Austin, TX
Working under the moniker Sol Vale, Elena Marquez paints heat, motion, and memory into loose architectural fields. She grew up between Brownsville and Austin, and her studio practice borrows as much from roadside signage and stucco walls as it does from formal abstraction.
Artist statement
I make paintings that hold onto the afterimage of a place instead of describing it literally. Each surface starts with a remembered temperature, a scrap of color, or a fragment of street geometry, and I keep layering until the painting feels like weather you can stand inside.
