About this work
Creek Bend I is a oil on linen work shaped around broken color laid down in quick strokes. June Alder keeps the palette anchored in sage green, harvest gold, and blue-lilac shadow so the whole body of work reads as a single conversation.

Clara Bennett paints fast-moving outdoor studies under the name June Alder, returning to creeks, parking lots, and neighborhood tree lines at different hours of the day. Her brushwork is loose, but the paintings are anchored by a deep attention to weather and shifting light.
Artist statement
I paint places that might otherwise disappear into routine. The goal is not to document them faithfully, but to keep the sensation of being there while light is actively changing the scene.
